The Contest
ESSENCE
Since 1994 the international festival of orthodox sacred music called CREDO takes place every year in Estonia. There is a yearly contest initiated in the CREDO festival, where all church, monastery and nunnery choirs as well as secular groups and children’s choirs who perform sacred music are welcome to participate.
 
PURPOSE OF CONTEST
Spiritual, moral, intellectual and creative development of youth. Experiencing the rich cultural historical heritage of the orthodox church. Getting to know the lives and work of people, who have contributed to development of spiritual culture, have presented great discoveries to the world and have been decent citizens.

The Nomination "SACRED MUSIC" will be dedicated to the memory of composer Lomakin, Gavriil  (1812 -1885). "... a conductor, teacher and composer, a musician - educator. He born in the family of a serf..."

CONTEST PROGRAM. The Nomination "SACRED MUSIC"
Every group will have 20 minutes for performance. At least 4 compositions will have to be performed:
1.      A composition by G.Lomakin.
2.      A traditional sacred song of Orthodox Church
3.      A sacred composition by choice
4.      A sacred composition by choice
A choir can perform extra songs if the songs fit into the maximum performance time (20 minutes). The jury will take the infringement of the time limit into account when deciding over the results of the contest.
 
CONTEST PROGRAM. The Nomination "FOLK MUSIC"

1.      A composition of the choir’s own choice from the choir’s country of origin.
2.- 4. A folk music of the choir’s own choice.
The program must be a cappella. 
A choir can perform extra songs if the songs fit into the maximum performance time (20 minutes). The jury will take the infringement of the time limit into account when deciding over the results of the contest.

THE TERMS OF PARTICIPATION IN THE CONTEST
All choirs which have obtained a permission may participate in the contest. By filing an application for participation, a choir will express their acceptance of the terms of the contest and also of television recording and photographing, TV and radio broadcasts, recording of performances and the possibility of listening to recordings during the contest. All rights of television and video recordings, photographing and sound recording shall be owned by the organisation committee of the contest.
 
The participation of the choirs to the contest will be decided by the organisation committee of the international festival CREDO.

TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTEST THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS HAVE TO BE SUBMITTED:
1.      Résumé of the choir (group) (up to 20 lines) in Russian and English and a CD with the choir’s recordings.
2.      Résumé of the choir leader (in Russian and English);
3.      A digital colour photograph of the choir (group);
4.      Initial program for the contest with the duration of performance of each composition;
5.      An application for participation filled out in full;
6.      Upon request of a group, concerts in Estonian towns may be arranged. (The terms shall be agreed upon separately).
 
ATTENDANCE FEE
To participate in the contest, attendance fee in the sum of 200 EUR for choirs and 150 EUR for groups will have to be paid. Payment is to be made before September 1, 2012 via the organisation committee of the international music festival CREDO. If a choir is deprived of the right to participate, their attendance fee will not be refunded.

Supplementary requirements for participation
1.      To prepare and deliver 5 copies of the scores of the compositions which will be performed and 5 sets in case of a vocal group;
2.      To send the exact performance program, including given and last name and birth and death date of the composer, with the exact name of the composition, the date of composing and duration of the composition.
3.      The program cannot be changed after September 1, 2012. If the previously sent program does not match the one submitted at the contest, the group will be disqualified immediately.
All expenses of regarding the stay of a group, including accommodation to hotels provided by the organisation committee, will be incurred by the participants themselves.
The participants will also incur expenses regarding completion of visa formalities.
